We are all only humans, and sometimes we make mistakes when it comes to our sexual health. Maybe you didn’t think clearly about whether you were ready for sex, maybe you were afraid to talk to your partner about using contraceptives, or perhaps you drank a bit too much and did something you are now regretting. We all know that we are supposed to protect ourselves when having sex, but we don’t always manage to do so. The first thing to think about when you have had unprotected sex is your health – consider taking emergency contraceptives and take an STI test at your nearest clinic. To clear your mind it can be helpful to speak with a trusted friend or adult about what happened. Everyone makes mistakes and by sharing your mistake with them you may also learn about the mistakes they have made in the past – so you don’t have to feel alone! You can also ask your friend for support, for example by accompanying you to the clinic or by helping you not to make the same mistake again.
