Everybody has to run a race called life from the time they were born until they die. Although every person runs that race, the ways they cross the finishing line or end the race are different. Some can have a happy ending by balancing their life perfectly while others end their lives with failures and slip-ups. There are also some tragedies of some people who drop out of the race early. Why do people have different endings? The reason is that some people do not have life skills which can steer their lives in the right direction and keep a balance in their lives. It does not mean that life skills can help a person not to make any mistake in life. As the Myanmar saying goes, “No lawyer without mistake, no medico who does not die”, we can make mistakes in our lives. But life skills can help us to know how to deal with the mistakes we have made and how to avoid the same mistakes in the future. Sometimes, people confuse the things they should have in their lives with the things which are indispensable in their lives. For example, if a young man who finished studing engineering at university, it cannot be denied that he has acquired a professional skill to earn a living. But later that young man breaks up with his girlfriend, cannot get over it and seeks solace in alcohol. As a result, he cannot work properly and becomes a bum. You can see in this example that professional or livelihood skills are good to have but lifeskills are something you must have. We can lead a healthy, happy and prosperous life only if we know how to live our lives in a proper way.
